Listed below is a list of events that the unit has participated in the past and/or still goes to every year. Some are local events and others are long distance events. The unit participates not only in its own events, but also in the events of other living history units/organizations.
Fabrica: Cincinnati, OH
These are our local monthly meetings that are held in Cincinnati at the Centurions house. The meetings vary all the time. In the past the unit used these events for formation drilling, working on Latin commands, working on personal items, unit items, social events, ect. These are held every first Saturday of the month.
Senate: Cincinnati, OH
Senate meetings are held in place of fabricas. These meetings are held every 3 to 4 month out of the year. It is at the Senate meeting that all up coming events, unit decisions, new member submissions, and any major decision/action made in the unit is debated and voted on. Only full members can vote on issues, but all members and non members are welcome to attend Senate meetings.
Saturnalia: Cincinnati, OH
Saturnalia is based off of the original Saturnalia celibration. This party is held every January, generally at a location picked by the unit. Festivaties in the pass have included singing, award ceremonies, stories, belly dancers, fire dancers, and much more. The unit trys to make accurate food for the event. All members are dressed in civilian style clothing. The event is held on a Saturday evening of the units choice.
Ft. Lafe: Lafe, AR
Towards the beginning of the year Legion II in AR holds an event that is called "Lafe" after the town Lafe. This event is a reenactor only event, meaning the general public is not invited. The event starts late Thursday night and ends late Saturday night. Most participants arive early Thurdsay, and leave early Sunday. There are two main groups at this event, the first being the Roman Legion and the second being the Celtic Tribes. Lafe has the only fully built Roman fort in the US. It has 4 walls, 2 gate houses, 4 towers, a mote, a rampart all around the falls, and 2 narrow walkways accross the mote. The Celtic village has a Long House built on top of a large hill. In the past Friday is a non combat day, in which the Romans and Celts can trade and interact with one another. Saturday is a full combat day, where needle felt weapons are used.
Ft. Meigs: Toledo, OH
Ft. Meigs has a timeline event every year in mid June. The unit attends this event to put on shows such as marching, combat drill, and Gladiator games. At Meigs people will get to see other reenactment groups ranging from Cave Man to modern military.
Cub Scouts: Multiple locations
Over the years the unit has put on shows for the Cub Scouts in OH and KY. These events help to test out our equipment, earn money for the unit, and allow members to have a good time dressed as Romans.
Celtic Festival: Cincinnati, OH
Cincinnati hosts a Celtic festival every year, and the unit goes down dressed as Celts. This is a slight change from the units normal kit. This allows us to interact with the public and get the units name out to the public.
Viking Festival: Ashville, OH
Ashville hosts a Viking festival every year on a Saturday and Sunday. This event has been in the past a larger event for the unit, because it is close to home and the unit gets a lot of publicity from the event. Vendors or all sorts attend this vestival, and around mid day there is a demonstration where all of the Reenactors are allowed to give history talks to the general public.
Rennassaunce Festival: OH and KY
The unit does go down or up to the Renn. fairs in both KY and OH. However, these are not offical events that the unit members must attend. Instead these are events in which members either as an entire unit or small groups get together to have a good time at a festival.
School of the Soldier: Multiple Locations
This is an event started by the unit, that has slowly grown over the years. The main focuse of this event is to have people train for the weekend as true Roman Legionary. The public is not invited to this event, so it is only reenactors. Participants will take part in training exercises, combat drill, formations, Latin commands, physical training, cooking as a unit, and everything that a Roman would do while training. There are multiple lectures held the cover everything from marching to usage of weapons. This is a must attend for any Roman reenactor. People who do not go as Legionary have in the past gone as cooks, politicians, and other Roman impressions. This event helps new comers to really work on the persons impression and kit.
Marches: Cincinnati Ohio, Newport Kentucky, and multiple places in Ohio/Kentucky
One of the things that the unit does to keep in shape is to have local marches. These marches can be anywhere from 1 to 5 miles long. All are held over the weekend, and are treated as max participation events. This is due to the fact that more often than not the local press is informed about the event. Depending on the weather members will need to dress appropriately. Furka poles (marching packs) will be required for these marches.
